Our top festive favourites to make your Roseland Christmas the best ever!

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

Overlooking Gerrans Bay near Portscatho, this veritable Aladdin’s cave of local produce, treats, tipples and gifts has been run by the Taffinder family for 25 years. There is always fresh fish and crab available when the weather allows for their own fleet of inshore fishing boats to land a catch – you can’t get much fresher than that!

The family farm is also home to a flock of Dorset sheep, free-range Cornish Black pigs and the Curgurrell herd of pedigree South Devon cattle, providing first class beef, pork and lamb to the shop. The walled garden produces the fruit crop for Curgurrell’s range of juices, jams and preserves and, during the yuletide season, you can also select from a lovely stock of Christmas trees and festive orange and lemon plants.

For a touch of luxe at Christmas, Mr Scorse’s gourmet deli and wine emporium is the place to go for a selection of seasonal deli produce and artisan cheese along with a curated range of wines, small batch spirits, craft beers, and cookshop gifts. Their own small-batch gin, flavoured with hand-picked Rosemary from St Mawes, combines citrus and botanical flavours inspired by the sea breeze. If you’re feeling peckish, you can also choose from a delightful takeaway menu of sandwiches, salads, and of course a Cornish pasty. Cream teas are also available along with fresh cakes, perfect for taking on to the beach or packed in your backpack for a treat at the end of a wintry walk.

Treway Farm produces some of the best grass-fed meat in Cornwall and its free-range bronze Christmas turkeys and geese make for the ultimate festive feast. The ethos at Treway is that good food takes time and so they work with nature and sustainable practices to ensure livestock and birds are reared slowly and naturally.

The family team started to rear bronze turkeys back in 2015 and this year will see us them produce 1500 turkeys and geese. Treway Farm is proud to be the first and only producer in Cornwall to be accredited with the ‘Golden Turkey Standard’, an assurance scheme which guarantees the highest welfare standards for the birds and stipulates the birds must be reared using age old traditional methods and fed a natural diet which gives them exemplary flavour.

Whether you’re looking for gourmet canapés to serve at a New Year’s drinks party, a bespoke dinner party, or just want to treat you and your family to a delicious meal, Haydn and his team provide haute cuisine, at home. As a professionally trained personal chef, Haydn worked in London and Cambridge, as well as being senior chef at the prestigious Nare Hotel in Cornwall, before he realised his vision of bringing fine dining to private homes. The service is totally bespoke, and Haydn can personalise your menu to whatever you desire, whether that be a barbecue, a buffet or an a la carte dinner. You can also have restaurant quality meals delivered to your door, which are ready to eat or can be popped in the freezer.

Using cutting-edge plant science, Trelonk’s wellbeing products make up an innovative range of health and wellness therapy oil products to help support people living with stress, chronic and acute conditions, sleep issues and joint and muscular concerns.

Referred to as ‘molecular wellbeing’, Trelonk’s highly skilled team analyse the make-up of their crops to harness their natural power for each oil product. The plants are grown, extracted and blended on the Roseland by experts, to create high-impact essential oils.

If you are looking for a unique gift this Christmas then this stunning Cornish jewellery will be the star of the show. These self-confessed alternative jewellery designs are perfect for beach bums, moto babes and adventure seekers. Hand-crafted by the sea, and with ethical and sustainable principles at its heart, the BMM brand combines the “edgy themes reminscient of the 1980s with the softer style of the more Bohemian 1970s”.

Split into two collections, Dark Side and Light Side, the stones and materials used are conflict free and they also offer a bespoke service should you want something totally unique.

You can’t beat the sweet smell and flickering flame of a handmade candle to create the perfect ambience in a room. St Mawes Scent Room’s soy wax candles and diffusers include a range of aromas to suit all occasions, from the ‘figgy’ deliciousness of Dempsey with its notes of vetiver, woods and hazelnut to the seasonal favourite, Harbour Lights, which evokes Christmas with its mix of orange, clove and cinnamon, resting on notes of amber and cedarwood.

Why not fill your home with fresh flowers this winter, with a bespoke arrangement from Amanada Taffinder? Her authentic flair and excellent advice serve to create bouquets that are at once unique and beautiful. Her style is wild, lush and abundant inspired by luxurious, elegant, natural and flourishing blooms.

For a romantic dinner, leisurely lunch or a sparkling cream tea, the restaurant at The Idle Rocks is the ultimate in waterside luxury. Head Chef, Dorian Janmaat has created a menu that celebrates Cornwall’s bountiful larder and offers an unforgettable culinary journey. With a strong emphasis on seasonal flavours, we highly recommend making a visit here part of your yuletide celebrations.

What could be better than a Boxing Day walk along the South West Coast Path, stopping off for coffee and cake, or a delicious lunch at The Hidden Hut. You’ll find this delightful café tucked away just off the path overlooking the beach. Think soups, chowders and spiced dahls to warm the soul, and pasties, sausage rolls, pastries and cakes for some festive comfort.
