About us
The Roseland Retreats team is headed up by Elowen Gray-Roberts [left], who brings a wealth of experience and local knowledge.
“I returned from a trip to South Africa at the age of 18 with no real direction, other than a love of Cornwall, specifically the Roseland, and the knowledge that I didn’t want to move away. My Grandma had serviced National Trust properties on the Roseland for years and working alongside her taught me how to look after and nurture luxury, historic properties,” explains Elowen.

This led Elowen to set up her own private concierge and cleaning business based on the Roseland. “An advertisement in a local magazine saw me inundated with calls, and initially my diary was completely full with weekly domestic cleans, week in week out. I built up excellent working relationships with my clients, many of them treating me like family. I prided myself on being the most trustworthy I could be and offering the best service possible.”
As the business grew, Elowen knew that she could no longer remain as a ‘one-man-band’: “I tried and tried over a number of years to find a business that I could collaborate with; one that would fit with my ethos, work ethic, and passion for property on the Roseland. Then, Covid-19 hit. I quickly realised how difficult life can be for everyone, let alone a self-employed business owner who relies on going into people’s houses every day. I was unable to work for almost half a year.”
Not one to rest on her laurels, Elowen made good use of her time by studying for an online Level 3 Diploma in Estate Agency. “It was always something I had had an interest in. I love property and knew this could be a good career option.”
In September 2020, a meeting with Sean Johnston and James Harvey, partners in Philip Martin Estate Agents, was to prove a turning point for Elowen: “Who would have thought that a drink in a Probus pub garden wold open so many doors for me. We immediately hit it off and I started training with the Philip Martin team as an estate agent in Autumn 2020. As restrictions started to lift, we soon realised that we could create something quite special from the St Mawes office – combining my concierge business with the existing, much-respected estate agency, Philip Martin. Our morals and philosophy matched perfectly and we are now able to bring a unique offering to the Roseland area.”
